Most Rev. Moses Olaka Kattey, Dr. (Ph.D), was a distinguished Nigerian clergyman, Archbishop, scholar, and spiritual leader whose life was devoted to Christian ministry, evangelism, and the moral transformation of society. As the Archbishop and General Overseer of the Commonwealth Covenant Church International (CCCI), headquartered in Alode, Eleme, he emerged as one of the most influential Christian leaders in Eleme and Rivers State in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.
Early Life and Background
Moses Olaka Kattey was born on 15 December 1953 in Alode, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. He grew up within the Eleme cultural environment, where discipline, community values, and faith played significant roles in shaping his worldview and character.
Education and Academic Training
Archbishop Kattey pursued a solid academic foundation alongside his spiritual calling. He attended Okrika Grammar School, Okrika, where he obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC), Grade I, in 1974.
He proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Physics Education. He later obtained a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree from the University of Jos, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the University of Calabar, reflecting his commitment to intellectual development and disciplined scholarship.
Christian Calling and Entry into Ministry
While a student at Okrika Grammar School, Moses Olaka Kattey encountered Christ in 1971, a defining moment that marked the beginning of his lifelong devotion to God. He became deeply involved in Christian fellowship activities and spiritual leadership from an early age.
In 1996, following a clear divine calling, he voluntarily retired from his career as a school principal and entered full-time Christian ministry. He became the first minister to be ordained as a Reverend Minister in the Christian Fellowship Deliverance Church, which later became the Commonwealth Covenant Church International (CCCI).
Ministry, Leadership, and Evangelical Impact
Archbishop Kattey rose to national and international prominence as a preacher, teacher, and deliverance minister. He was widely sought after in Eleme and beyond for prayer, counsel, and spiritual leadership.
Through his ministry, he was credited with the healing of numerous individuals suffering from mental illness, the restoration of homes, the blessing of families with children, and the manifestation of spiritual deliverance and renewal across Nigeria and beyond. His ministry emphasized faithfulness, total dependence on the Holy Spirit, and the biblical mandate encapsulated in the theme “Here I am, send me.”
As a church leader, he trained, mentored, ordained, and commissioned pastors, elders, and deacons, shaping generations of ministers within the CCCI and related Christian networks.

Most Rev. Moses Olaka Kattey passed on to glory in April 2020, with news of his transition circulating on 24 April 2020. Tributes described him as an illustrious son of the Eleme Kingdom, a father in faith, and a tireless servant of God.
His legacy endures through the ministers he ordained, the institutions he founded, the lives he touched, and the spiritual imprint he left on Eleme, Rivers State, and the wider Christian community in Nigeria.
