Oji Ngofa

Oji Ngofa was formerly the ambassador of Nigeria to the Netherlands. He was Eleme Local Government Area's executive chairman for two terms.

BIRTH

Oji Ngofa, Chief, Honourable, was born as Oji Nyimenuate Ngofa on 24th 1968 August at Aleto Eleme, to Hon. Nwosu Alale Ngofa, a leading educationist in the area,

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Oji Ngofa earned his West Africa School Certificate (WASC) in 1985 after earning his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1979.

He completed the National Youth Service (NYSC) in 1992 after earning a Bachelor of Art degree in English and Literary Studies from the University of Calabar in 1991.

Ngofa graduated from the University of Port Harcourt with a Post Graduate Diploma in International Affairs.

PRIOR APPOINTMENTS

In 1987, Oji Ngofa served as the secretary of the Jet Bombers Football Club, Aleto. He served as the Youth Council Secretary for Okrika, Tai, Eleme LGA (OTELGA) in 1988.

The National Union of Rivers State Students (NURS) elected him as its public relations officer in 1989. In 1989, Oji Ngofa was the National Association of Eleme Students' (NAES) president. He was president of the Eleme Progressive Youth Association in 1990. He was president of the Nigeria Union of Campus Journalists at the University of Calabar in 1990.

EXPERIENCE IN POLITICS AND WORK


Oji Ngofa served as Dellatra Bezons Nigeria's (DBN) personnel manager from 1993 to 1994. In 1994, joined IPCO (NIG) Ltd, as Personnel Manager, where he served for nine years.

Ngofa was elected as Eleme Local Government Area's Executive Chairman in 2008; same year he was honoured with NULGE Rivers State Chapter Best Chairman Award.

In 2009, he was named the Second Best in the South-South Geo-Political Zone and the Best Performing Chairman in Rivers State by the House of Representatives. In 2010, he was appointed Chairman of the Anti-Bunkering Committee in Ogoni (Eleme, Tai, Gokana, and Khana LGAs) by the Rivers State Government. The Rivers State Government recognized him as the Most Outstanding Security Conscious LGA Chairman in Rivers State in 2010 with the Security Awareness Awards.

Oji Ngofa was re-elected in 2011 as Eleme Local Government Area Executive Chairman. He received the House of Representatives' Most Outstanding Chairman award in Nigeria in 2013.

He was elected to serve as the All Progressives Congress's Deputy National Secretary in 2014.
He was named Chairman of the Eleme Local Government Council's Caretaker Committee in 2015.

He served as the chairman of Delta State's Fact-Finding Panel to the All Progressives Congress in 2015.

Oji Ngofa was appointed the Federal Republic of Nigeria's ambassador to the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands in 2017.  He served as Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2017.


He served as Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in 2017.

He represented Nigeria as its Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and other Hague-based international organizations in 2017.

He received the 2017 Orange Magazine Foreign Liaison of the Year award.

He was chosen as the Vice Chairperson of the OPCW Executive Council in 2018 by the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

He was chosen as the Chairperson of the OPCW's Open-Ended Working Group on Terrorism in 2019 by the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention. This group oversees the organization's work to combat chemical terrorism worldwide.

He was chosen as the Group's Coordinator in 2019 by the Group of African States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

CHIEFTAINCY TITLE
Emere Odala-Eta Ebo  1 of Eleme Land was the chieftaincy title bestowed upon Oji Ngofa in 2020 by the Eleme Council of Chiefs.
