Chief Joseph Oluji 


Chief Joseph Oluji was a respected educationist, traditional ruler, and community leader whose life was devoted to service, discipline, and the advancement of society in Eleme and beyond. He was born on 10th October 1957 at Ewuu Community, Aleto, Nchia, in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria.

Early Life and Education

Chief Oluji began his formal education at Holy Trinity School, Nchia, where he obtained the First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1970. He proceeded to Ascension High School, Ogale, Eleme, where he studied between 1971 and 1977. Driven by a passion for learning and teaching, he later gained admission into the University of Port Harcourt, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education/History in 1984.

Professional Career

Chief Joseph Oluji built a distinguished career in the education sector, marked by diligence, leadership, and commitment to moral upbringing. He served as a teacher at State Primary School, Alesa, before rising through the ranks to become a school principal in several institutions. His postings included:

  • Principal, Community Secondary School (C.S.S.), Kira, Tai
  • Principal, C.S.S., Sime, Tai
  • Principal, B.N.C.S.S., Gioara-Ghana
  • Principal, Government Secondary School (G.S.S.), Onne

Through these roles, he mentored generations of students and contributed significantly to educational development within and outside Rivers State.

Traditional and Community Leadership

Beyond education, Chief Oluji was deeply rooted in traditional and community service. He served as Secretary General of the Aleto Clan Council of Chiefs and Elders and was installed as the Traditional Ruler of Ewuu Community in Aleto Clan. He was also a respected member of the Nchia/Eleme Council of Chiefs and Elders, where his wisdom and peace-loving disposition earned him wide respect.

In recognition of his service and character, he received several honours and titles, including:

  • Award of Excellence by Aleto undergraduates
  • Distinguished Service Award by the Eleme Students Association, Rivers State Polytechnic

Religious Life

Chief Joseph Oluji was a devout and God-fearing Christian, widely known as a peace maker and a strong supporter of truth and sincerity. He worshipped at Living Faith Church, Aleto, where he served as Chairman of the Shiloh Committee. In this capacity, he led pilgrims to the Shiloh Ground, Ota, Lagos, in 2009. He later served as Vice Chairman of the Men’s Association of the church and attended the International Network of Faith Bible Institute (INOFBI), further strengthening his spiritual foundation.

Family Life and Passing

Chief Oluji was happily married, and his union was blessed with five children. He passed away in 2020, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to education, faith, and traditional values.

His life remains a reference point for responsible leadership and community development in Eleme land.
