Honourable Gad Lewa Meme was a committed grassroots politician, youth mobiliser, and public administrator whose political career was closely intertwined with the growth of democratic participation and local governance in Eleme. He belonged to a generation of leaders who rose through community service, student activism, and party mobilisation to positions of public responsibility within Eleme Local Government Area.
Birth
Hon. Gad Lewa Meme was born on 20th May 1971 in Nloro Community, Eteo, Eleme, Rivers State, Nigeria.
Education
He began his formal education at State Primary School, Eteo, Eleme, and proceeded to Government Secondary School, Onne, Eleme. He later gained admission into the University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Political Science and Administrative Studies.
Work and Political Experience
Hon. Gad Lewa Meme’s public life was shaped by early involvement in youth, student, and political organisations. He served as Interim Youth President and later Vice President of the Eteo Youth Council, where he played an active role in youth mobilisation and community advocacy.
His political engagement widened when he became Chairman of the Niger Delta Movement, Eleme Chapter, and Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Eleme Students (NAES), University of Port Harcourt Chapter. He later served as State Chairman of the Odili Victory Forum, a position that placed him at the centre of party mobilisation and political coordination during a significant period in Rivers State politics.
In 2008, Hon. Gad Lewa Meme was elected Vice Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area (ELELGA). His performance in office earned him re-election in 2011, allowing him to serve a second term as Vice Chairman. Throughout his tenure, he was known for his grassroots orientation, loyalty to party structures, and commitment to local governance.
Personal Life
Hon. Gad Lewa Meme was deeply rooted in his community and maintained strong ties with his people in Eteo and across Eleme. He was known for his simplicity, approachability, and dedication to community affairs, qualities that endeared him to colleagues, political associates, and constituents.
Death
Honourable Gad Lewa Meme passed away on 9th March 2017. His death marked the end of a life devoted to service and political engagement. He is remembered for his contributions to youth development, party organisation, and local government administration in Eleme.
